Matsapha – Exposure to higher learning is vital for police officers as policing continues to evolve, Senior Deputy National Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Sula Dlamini has said.

Dlamini was speaking during the closure of a Middle Management Skills Development Course held at the Matsapha Police Academy, where he represented the National Commissioner of Police. The course brought together middle ranking officers from across the Royal Eswatini Police Service.

He said modern policing demands more than basic law enforcement skills, noting that officers are increasingly required to operate in complex environments that call for advanced training and broader academic grounding. According to Dlamini, social change has reshaped the nature of crime and public expectations, making it necessary for police officers to adapt and apply relevant solutions in different situations.

He told participants that officers who pursue higher learning at institutions such as the University of Eswatini and other learning centres are expected to contribute meaningfully to improved service delivery in the communities they serve.

Dlamini said the middle management course plays a key role in strengthening leadership within the police service. He explained that middle managers are central to implementing the mandate of the Royal Eswatini Police Service to serve and protect the nation from crime, social disorder and road carnage.

He said their responsibilities include managing daily operations, supervising junior supervisors and ensuring that community oriented policing is implemented and followed at operational level across the country.
