KIGALI: Eswatini is strengthening its efforts to comply with international standards on anti money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism and countering proliferation financing.

A high level delegation from the Kingdom is currently attending the 52nd Eastern and Southern Africa Anti Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) Task Force of Senior Officials Plenary Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.

The delegation is led by Ministry of Finance Principal Secretary Vusie Dlamini and includes Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo and Eswatini Financial Intelligence Centre (EFIC) Director General Babhekile Matsebula.

Members of Parliament and Senate, senior government officials, representatives from the Central Bank of Eswatini and EFIC, together with officials from other institutions involved in the country’s anti money laundering and counter terrorism financing framework, are also part of the delegation.

Eswatini’s latest efforts follow the country’s 2022 Mutual Evaluation, which identified several areas requiring improvement in its systems for combating money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation financing.

Since the evaluation, the country has introduced a number of reforms, including changes to legislation and measures aimed at strengthening the institutions responsible for implementing the AML, CFT and CPF framework.

These reforms have resulted in Eswatini’s compliance with international standards improving from 14 to 28 out of 40 standards.

During the ongoing plenary meeting in Kigali, Eswatini has submitted a further four standards for re rating.
