Tokyo, Japan – Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa met with Burundian Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro on Thursday, August 23, to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
The meeting, held in Tokyo, marked a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two nations. Minister Kamikawa reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Burundi, particularly during its challenging times. Minister Shingiro expressed his gratitude for Japan’s assistance and expressed his desire to deepen cooperation in various fields, including the mineral resources sector, through initiatives like the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) process.
Both ministers agreed on the importance of strengthening regional connectivity and enhancing cooperation in areas such as the United Nations Security Council reform.
Looking ahead, the ministers confirmed their commitment to further developing Japan-Burundi relations in the lead-up to TICAD 9 in 2025.
