Japan, Egypt Vow to Strengthen Ties, Tackle Regional Issues

Tokyo, Japan – Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Thursday, August 23, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.

The meeting, held in Tokyo, marked a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two nations. Minister Kamikawa welcomed Minister Abdelatty’s appointment and expressed her delight at his visit to Japan.

Reviewing the progress made in their 70-year bilateral relationship, the ministers highlighted the successful development of industrial, scientific, and technological human resources in the Middle East and Africa through their joint efforts. They reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening cooperation in various fields.

Looking ahead, the ministers emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in the lead-up to the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), scheduled for 2025.

In addition to bilateral matters, Japan and Egypt addressed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, particularly the crisis in Gaza. Minister Kamikawa reiterated Japan’s support for Egypt’s efforts to address the situation and called for all relevant parties to exercise restraint and engage in negotiations for hostage release and a ceasefire.

The meeting also touched on other international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and the North Korean abduction crisis. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to working together on these challenges.
