Harare – Confederation of African Football President Dr Patrice Motsepe made a warm and heartfelt declaration on Sunday when he touched down in Harare, Zimbabwe, ahead of the COSAFA Elective General Assembly.
Motsepe was welcomed at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Barbara Rwodzi, Zimbabwe Football Association President Nqobile Magwizi, and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr George Manyaya, as football leadership from across the region gathered in the country.
The CAF president’s words set the tone for his visit, saying: “Zimbabwe is my home, we are all one people.”
During the engagement, Dr Motsepe praised Zimbabwean President His Excellency Dr E.D. Mnangagwa for championing sports tourism through football and for creating an environment that promotes unity, investment, and international engagement.
Minister Rwodzi said the arrival of a figure of Dr Motsepe’s stature once again showed how tourism, sport, and hospitality work hand in hand to project Zimbabwe onto the African and global stage. She added that sports tourism continues to play a critical role in advancing soft diplomacy, fostering regional integration, and creating opportunities for economic growth, while strengthening Zimbabwe’s image as a peaceful, welcoming, and competitive tourism destination.
