Mbabane – Four families displaced by the long-running Mbondzela Farm dispute received new homes today, as HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, handed over completed houses. The homes were constructed by the farm owner under a court-guided agreement, while negotiations continue for the remaining families.
The dispute, which has been ongoing for years, involved 32 families originally living on Mbondzela Farm. So far, 24 families have been engaged in negotiations, with 17 agreeing to vacate and signing formal agreements. Additional houses are planned for the remaining families still awaiting relocation.
During the handover, Minister Lonkhokhela also donated food parcels to support affected families, some of whom continue to live on the farm amid ongoing talks. The Ministry noted that the Farm Dwellers Control Act provides mechanisms to resolve such disputes, but implementation challenges had previously led to losses on both sides.
