Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Senegalese counterpart, Yassine Fall, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in various fields.
Minister Kamikawa highlighted the shared values between Japan and Senegal, emphasizing the importance of democracy and the rule of law. She expressed Japan’s desire to deepen its partnership with Senegal, a stable and democratic country in the region.
Minister Fall expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and expressed Senegal’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in the economic sphere. He highlighted the potential for increased private sector investment and cooperation in the lead-up to the Osaka-Kansai Expo next year.
The two ministers welcomed progress in decarbonization efforts through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening people-to-people exchanges in areas such as culture and sports.
Japan and Senegal agreed to further deepen their bilateral relations ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 conference. They also exchanged views on international cooperation, including Security Council reform and the situation in North Korea.
