The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has endorsed Lesotho’s candidate, Mr. Joshua Setipa, for the position of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

The endorsement came during a meeting of the SADC Council of Ministers held on March 11, 2024, in Luanda, Angola. Lesotho had requested SADC’s backing for Mr. Setipa’s candidacy.

The Commonwealth Secretary-General election will be held during the organization’s Heads of Governments meeting in October 2024.

Lesotho’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Lejone Mpotjoane, was informed of the endorsement through an official letter from SADC Executive Secretary Elias M. Magosi.
