Following the cash crisis caused by the redesign of old Naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria, criminal activities in the country significantly reduced as it became difficult to remit ransom payments.
However, the mild-peace was disrupted as criminal elements resumed their heinous acts after the CBN bowed to pressure and released the old naira notes to co-exist with the newly redesigned notes.
Notable attacks include the abduction of at least 100 persons by bandits in Zamfara and Katsina states, the kidnapping of a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Prof Onje Gye-wado, and the killing of over 40 persons in Enetekpa Adoka district of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected herdsmen militia.
On April 9, armed herders invaded an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mgban, Benue State, killing over 35 people. Governor Ortom confirmed that 18 out of the 23 local government areas of the state are under siege by Fulani herdsmen.
Despite the efforts of the police and other security operatives to safeguard the lives of the people, incidents such as these happen from time to time, although the security operatives are always on the ground.
