MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini has confirmed the death of liSwati student Senzelwe Sisonkhe Nkambule in the Republic of India. His body has been repatriated to Eswatini.
Officials extended condolences to Mr. Nkambule’s family, friends, and all who knew him, asking the nation to keep the bereaved family in their thoughts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation thanked fellow Eswatini students in India who acted swiftly when he was reported missing, as well as Indian authorities and others who assisted in the search.
Authorities said Mr. Nkambule was found alive abroad but passed away a few days later. The government expressed concern over unverified information circulating online and urged citizens to avoid incitement of violence against the Indian community in Eswatini.
ETV Bharat reported on September 23, 2025, at 7:02 PM IST, incorrectly identifying Mr. Nkambule as a South African student. The report stated that the 22-year-old died during treatment at Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, while seeking admission at a private university. According to the report, he suffered from mental illness, and his medication had been stolen at Mumbai airport. The report claimed he had not received calls from his family for three days and that several videos of him behaving erratically in Mumbai had circulated online.
The ETV Bharat report said the South African Embassy intervened, helping him gain admission to Ambedkar Hospital on September 19, where he later died on September 22. The Devendra Nagar police launched an investigation into his death. An official confirmed that the body was sent for autopsy after the inquest process was completed with his family present.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has formally requested that the Government of India conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Nkambule’s death and confirmed Eswatini’s commitment to collaborate fully on the matter.
