CATUANE, MOZAMBIQUE – The Administrative Post of Catuane in Matutuine District yesterday hosted the launch of Phase 1 of the Catuane Groundwater Project, a regional initiative aimed at improving the area’s water supply system.
Consultant Solomon, contracted to lead the first phase, was formally introduced to community members, local leaders, and administrative officials during a meeting attended by a large gathering of residents. The event included site visits to existing boreholes and locations earmarked for detailed studies.
The project builds on work started in June, when technical teams from Mozambique and the Incomati and Maputo Watercourse Commission (INMACOM) explored options for ensuring safe drinking water for Catuane. The initiative is a collaboration between Mozambique, Eswatini, and South Africa under INMACOM’s regional water management framework.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Manuel Musindo Tembe thanked INMACOM and the three partner countries for supporting the project and pledged local cooperation to help secure access to clean water.
Tomorrow, the consultant and technical team will visit Bela Vista to meet Matutuine district authorities, including the Permanent Secretary and the District Planning and Infrastructure Services (SDPI), to present the project and reaffirm commitments to sustainable water solutions.
