LUDZIDZINI – His Majesty King Mswati III has called upon maidens across the Kingdom to gather for the annual Umhlanga Reed Dance, which will commence on 2 September 2025.

The announcement was made by Indvuna yeMbali Bongiwe Hlatjwako, who delivered the official proclamation at Ludzidzini Royal Residence. The cultural rite, which brings together thousands of young women, will unfold over a week of activities rooted in tradition and national identity.

Maidens are expected to arrive at Ludzidzini on Tuesday, 2 September for registration. On 3 September, they will depart for the various locations where reed is sourced. Cutting will take place on 4 September, with a return to the royal residence scheduled for the 5th. The following day has been set aside for rest.
