The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) in Eswatini has welcomed a team from the African Organisation for English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) to help improve the country’s auditing processes. The team, led by Executive Officer Josephine Makumba, visited the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Simanga Mamba, to discuss their ongoing support for the OAG’s development.
AFROSAI-E is working with Eswatini’s Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) to implement an automated audit system known as the Eswatini SAI Enhancement Tool (E-SEAT). The system is designed to streamline and improve the efficiency and quality of audits, including planning, execution, reporting, and quality control.
During the visit, Mamba expressed gratitude for AFROSAI-E’s assistance, recognizing its role in equipping local auditors with the skills needed to produce impactful and responsive audits. He also highlighted the importance of audits that provide value for money and ensure compliance, beyond just balancing accounts.
Auditor General Timothy Matsebula thanked the CSC for its support, particularly in providing the right personnel to help achieve the OAG’s mandate. Matsebula noted that the latest group of auditors is currently being trained to become Certified Government Auditors through agreements with professional partners. The SAI is also enhancing its Performance Auditors’ skills, offering continuous training both locally and through AFROSAI-E, as well as certification from the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
The three-week training program for the local auditors, designed to build capacity with the new E-SEAT system, will be led by international experts and local trainers.
