Kampala, Uganda – June 21st, 2024 – Uganda has taken a major leap forward in its aviation sector, signing a landmark deal with the United Arab Emirates to construct a brand new international airport. This marks the East African nation’s third international airport and signifies a deepening partnership with the Gulf region.

The agreement was reached between Ugandan officials and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a prominent business association from the UAE. The new airport will be situated near the breathtaking Kidepo National Park in northeastern Uganda, close to the Kenyan border. While the official cost of construction hasn’t been disclosed, developers are targeting an August start date.

This strategic project is expected to provide a significant boost to Ugandan tourism. The Kidepo National Park, spanning over 1,442 square kilometers, is home to an abundance of wildlife, including lions, giraffes, and buffaloes. The improved air accessibility is expected to draw in a wider range of tourists eager to experience this natural wonder.

President Yoweri Museveni, who witnessed the signing ceremony, hailed the deal as a testament to Uganda’s growing ties with Gulf partners. He expressed optimism for continued collaboration on future investment and trade opportunities.
