The Czech Republic and Ibero-American nations kicked off a week of cultural exchange and diplomatic discussions on May 14th, 2024. Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský launched the “International Conference Czechia and Iberoamerica – Together in a Globalised World” at the Czernin Palace in Prague.

The conference, a centerpiece of the newly established Ibero-American Week, aims to strengthen ties between the Czech Republic, Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. High-profile attendees included Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States, and Andrés Allamand, Secretary General of Iberoamerica.

“We see immense potential in our relationship, particularly in economic cooperation,” stated Lipavský, highlighting the Czech Republic’s openness to trade and investment. He also emphasized the importance of cybersecurity collaboration, referencing his recent trip to Latin America.

The conference tackled global challenges, regional issues, and economic and cybersecurity cooperation. The week also witnessed the launch of an exhibition celebrating 100 years of diplomatic relations with Argentina, a book marking the same milestone with Chile, and cultural events like Panamanian folklore performances and Dominican art exhibitions.

Ibero-American Week, extending from May 13th to 19th, encompasses various cultural and social events across Prague and other Czech cities. A friendly football match between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs team and a combined team from Ibero-American embassies adds a sporty touch to the festivities. Marking its third year, Ibero-American Week is poised to become a cherished tradition.
