Washington D.C – Minister for Economic Planning and Development Dr Tambo Gina is leading an Eswatini delegation at the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C., which run from 13 to 18 April 2026.
The meetings are being held alongside the International Monetary Fund Meetings, which are attended separately by Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg.
Serving as Governor of the World Bank Group, Dr Gina will lead discussions with the World Bank’s Regional Vice President for East and South Africa, Dr Ndiamé Diop. The talks will cover Eswatini’s performance on the World Bank portfolio, priorities for World Bank financing particularly under the International Development Association 21 National Performance Based Allocation of US$84.2 million, and priorities for funding through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The discussions will focus on sustaining the implementation of reforms and supporting domestic economic development.
Dr Gina will also hold bilateral meetings with Mr Zarau Kibwe, the Executive Director for Africa Group 1 Constituency of which Eswatini is a member, as well as Alternate Executive Director Ms Lonkhululeko Magagula.
On the multilateral front, the Minister will attend the Africa Group 1 constituency meeting for World Bank Governors, the Development Committee meeting, a closed session for Ministers on Water Security for Africa, and a meeting with the International Finance Corporation, among others.
Dr Gina has also been selected as a panelist at the launch of the World Bank’s Strategy for Small States during the Spring Meetings. He currently serves as Small States Champion and Co-Chair of the Commonwealth Small States Forum alongside the Prime Minister of Samoa. The panel discussions will focus on a call to action to address challenges faced by small countries, and will acknowledge the World Bank’s efforts to support small states and the recently developed Small States Strategy.
