Eswatini Bank confirms E1.6m Manzini robbery

Manzini – Eswatini Bank has confirmed that E1.6 million was stolen during a robbery at its Manzini Branch in the early hours of Monday, 09 February 2026.

The bank released a press statement detailing the incident, which is currently under active investigation by the Royal Eswatini Police Service. Management said the institution is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities as investigations continue.

According to the statement titled Manzini Branch Robbery, the incident occurred at the Manzini Branch during the early hours of Monday morning. The bank disclosed that an estimated E1.6 million was taken and that its internal verification processes are still ongoing to establish the full facts.

“We have also established that the cash taken was accessed through the bank’s ATMs at the branch. However, our vaults were left untouched due to the controls and security measures in place. In addition, our systems and customer accounts have not been compromised,” read part of the statement.

Management said ensuring accountability remains a priority.

“It is of paramount importance to us as a bank to fully establish the facts and get answers to ensure that appropriate action is taken and that those responsible are brought to justice.”

The bank moved to calm customers and stakeholders following the robbery, assuring the public that security systems functioned as designed in critical areas.

“The Bank remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of security to ensure the safety of customers’ funds. We would therefore like to assure all our customers and stakeholders that their funds remain safe and secure.”

Eswatini Bank further indicated that the Manzini Branch will resume operations within the next few days.

“We thank our customers, the police, all stakeholders and the public for their patience and understanding as the investigation progresses.”

The statement was issued by management and shared on the bank’s official platforms as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the robbery.
