Harare – The Zimbabwean government has appointed new board members for the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and the Mosi Oa Tunya Development Company as part of efforts to strengthen corporate governance, accountability and transparency in the tourism sector.
The appointments were announced on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Barbara Rwodzi. They were made in line with the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act and the Tourism Act.
The changes come as Zimbabwe’s tourism industry records steady growth, growing international attention and increasing investor interest. Authorities view tourism as a key pillar for national development, a trajectory closely watched in the Kingdom of Eswatini where tourism is also regarded as a major contributor to economic activity and employment.
According to the ministry, the newly appointed board members bring wide ranging experience expected to strengthen strategic direction and oversight across the sector. The board of the Mosi Oa Tunya Development Company is tasked with speeding up tourism infrastructure development and attracting investment in Victoria Falls, one of southern Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority board will focus on destination marketing, improving service delivery and maintaining regulatory systems aimed at improving visitor experience and supporting industry growth.
Government officials said the new boards are expected to enhance tourism’s contribution to gross domestic product and improve Zimbabwe’s international standing. The initiatives are aligned with the National Development Strategy 2 and the Vision 2030 agenda of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, which targets upper middle income status by 2030.
