New York – Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have arrived in the US after being captured in a dramatic military operation. The plane carrying them landed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York, according to federal sources. The couple faces serious charges, including drug trafficking and weapons offenses, and are expected to appear in a Manhattan federal court next week.

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to “run” Venezuela following Maduro’s ouster, stating that the US will control the country’s vast oil reserves. Trump said American companies would be recruited to invest in Venezuela’s devastated oil industry, and US troops would maintain a presence to safeguard oil interests. Trump’s remarks have ignited concerns in Venezuela and beyond, as uncertainty looms over the country’s future.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has demanded the immediate release of Maduro and Flores, labeling the capture a “kidnapping” and a violation of international law. She maintains that Maduro remains Venezuela’s legitimate president and called on Latin American nations to support the country in the face of this “armed aggression.”

Despite Rodríguez’s stance, Trump has indicated willingness to cooperate with her in shaping a new direction for Venezuela, though details remain unclear. In Caracas, the streets have been eerily quiet as citizens scramble for groceries and supplies, unsure of what the future holds under the new circumstances.
