Windhoek – President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia hosted a courtesy visit from Chief Justice Mandisa Maya of South Africa today. The visit, which also included Chief Justice Peter Shivute of Namibia and Honourable Wise Immanuel, Minister of Justice and Labour Relations, marks a significant step in strengthening judicial ties between the two nations.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah warmly received Chief Justice Maya and her delegation, extending a heartfelt welcome on behalf of Namibia’s government and people. During the visit, Maya delivered a public lecture attended by students, academics, and legal practitioners. Her talk focused on key issues within the legal profession, addressing concerns over gender imbalances and the increasing number of female lawyers outpacing their male counterparts.
The leaders discussed the growing disparity within the legal field, noting the importance of ensuring that young men are not left behind in pursuing careers in law. Both President Nandi-Ndaitwah and Chief Justice Maya acknowledged the need for greater support for the boy child to help address the gender gap in the profession.
The President also praised the strong cooperation between the Namibian and South African judiciaries, emphasizing that such partnerships help ensure consistent and correct legal interpretation. She expressed gratitude for the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries, encouraging both Chief Justices to strengthen this collaboration for the benefit of both nations.
