Accra, Ghana – Ghana and China are exploring expanded cooperation in tourism, cultural heritage and the creative arts, with Ghana’s government seeking to attract investment, create employment and open new opportunities for citizens of both countries.
Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, made the call during the Global Dialogue on “China’s Governance and Worldwide Development”, held in Accra on November 6, 2026, where she delivered the keynote address.
Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yussif Issaka Jajah, also attended and participated in the discussions.
Gomashie outlined several areas where the two countries could strengthen their partnership, including tourism infrastructure, international destination marketing, preservation of cultural heritage, creative industry development, professional skills training and technology transfer.
She disclosed that Ghana had secured a US$30 million grant from the Chinese Government to rehabilitate and modernise the National Theatre of Ghana.
The investment is expected to improve the country’s performing arts infrastructure, provide better facilities for creative practitioners and contribute to the expansion of Ghana’s creative economy.
The Minister said the partnership between Accra and Beijing should be assessed beyond the financial value of investments and infrastructure projects.
She pointed to the importance of building stronger institutions, supporting the establishment of businesses, generating employment and creating practical opportunities that improve the livelihoods of people in both countries.
