African governments, energy companies and investors will gather in Maputo in November for a major summit focused on attracting investment into the continent’s gas and liquefied natural gas sector while increasing the economic benefits for local businesses.
The Africa Gas & LNG Summit (AfGLNG) will take place from November 11 to 13 at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre, bringing together government leaders, energy executives, investors and industry experts to discuss the next phase of Africa’s gas development.
The summit will be held under the official patronage of Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy. Chapo is scheduled to deliver the presidential welcome on the opening day, while Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Estevão Pale will participate in key discussions.
AfGLNG 2026 is hosted by the Associação de Conteúdo Local de Moçambique (ACLM), with Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos, E.P. (ENH), Mozambique’s national hydrocarbons company and government equity partner in LNG projects, and the Instituto Nacional de Petróleo (INP), the country’s petroleum regulator, serving as strategic partners.
The meeting comes at a crucial point for Africa’s gas industry, with major projects facing investment decisions while governments seek to capture more value from their natural resources.
Mozambique is at the centre of this development. The Mozambique LNG project, led by TotalEnergies, represents an investment of about US$20 billion and is projected to produce approximately 13 million tonnes of LNG annually.
Rovuma LNG, led by ExxonMobil and Eni, has been licensed for production of 18 million tonnes per year, while Coral South FLNG has been exporting gas since 2022 as Africa’s first deepwater floating LNG project.
The US$6 billion to US$7 billion Coral North FLNG expansion is expected to double Coral South’s output by 2028.
With Africa’s role in the global gas supply chain expanding, the summit will look beyond exports to examine how the sector can contribute to infrastructure development, industrialisation and wider economic growth.
Regional projects in focus
Investment opportunities across different parts of Africa will feature prominently on the programme, with sessions covering Mozambique, North Africa, West Africa and Southern Africa.
Discussions will include Senegal and Mauritania’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas project, Nigeria’s expanding LNG and pipeline infrastructure, as well as emerging developments in Congo, Angola and Tanzania.
An Africa Energy Ministers’ Forum will bring together nine African energy ministries for discussions on policy, investment and regional cooperation.
The ministerial discussions will form part of a broader programme addressing commercial and project level challenges facing the industry.
A dedicated session on Final Investment Decision will examine the conditions required to move major projects towards FID, alongside discussions on financing, LNG infrastructure, gas to power, industrialisation and the wider African LNG value chain.
Local businesses seek greater opportunities
Local content will be another major theme at the Maputo gathering, with organisers seeking to examine how African companies can participate more directly in the growth of the gas industry.
A dedicated SME and Entrepreneurs session will focus on supplier development, access to finance and practical opportunities for African businesses to provide goods and services to the energy sector.
The discussions will consider ways to ensure that gas development generates benefits beyond export revenues by supporting local supply chains, enterprise development and broader economic participation.
The opening programme will also feature an Energy Leaders’ Dialogue under the theme, “The African Gas Opportunity: Turning Resources into Prosperity.”
The session will examine how Africa can use its natural gas resources to create lasting economic value.
Confirmed participants include Rudêncio Morais, Chairman of ENH; Nazário Bangalane, Chairman of INP; Dr Elthon Chemane, Chairman of ACLM Mozambique; Farid Ghezali, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO); Ranti Omole, CEO of Radial Circle; and Eng. Elizabeth Rogo, President and CEO of Tsavo Oilfield Services in Kenya.
A separate technical programme will run alongside the executive conference on the second day, providing a platform for more specialised industry discussions.
The three day summit will also include an international exhibition, an exhibition tour and cocktail reception on the opening day, as well as networking opportunities for government officials, companies, investors and industry professionals.
The Africa Gas & LNG Summit is organised by GEP, Global Event Partners, as an international platform focused on investment, partnerships and development across Africa’s gas and LNG industry.
The 2026 edition will be held from November 11 to 13 at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo under the official patronage of President Chapo and Mozambique’s Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy.
