Johannesburg, South Africa – A burgeoning controversy has engulfed South African musician Thandiswa Mazwai and Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina. The drama unfolded on social media platform X, with accusations and clarifications flying thick and fast.
The storm was ignited when gender justice activist Anele Mda shared a video detailing her email to the Miss SA organization, advocating for an exclusively South African pageant. Mazwai, whose song “Nizalwa Ngobani” was featured in the video, expressed her displeasure, clarifying that her music was intended to foster unity and love, not divisiveness.
Subsequent posts by Mazwai saw her defending her Pan-African stance against criticism, asserting that it did not equate to condoning criminal activity.
Meanwhile, Miss SA contestant Chidimma Adetshina has been under scrutiny regarding her citizenship. Following the viral circulation of an alleged interview with her father, Adetshina vehemently denied the man in the video was her biological father.
Patriotic Alliance deputy president Kenny Kunene has announced the party’s intention to investigate Adetshina’s citizenship status, stating that legal avenues will be explored to ascertain her eligibility for the pageant.
