Johannesburg, South Africa – The Department of Home Affairs has announced a deepening probe into the citizenship of Miss SA contestant, Chidimma Adetshina. Initial inquiries into the matter have uncovered strong evidence suggesting potential fraud and identity theft perpetrated by Adetshina’s mother.

The department has confirmed that the investigation was prompted by a request from Miss SA organizers, with the full cooperation of both Adetshina and her mother. Comprehensive inquiries, including extensive record checks and site visits, have revealed prima facie evidence of fraudulent activities allegedly committed in 2001.

Home Affairs has stated that Adetshina cannot be implicated in the alleged unlawful actions as she was an infant at the time. However, the department believes an innocent South African woman was prevented from registering her child due to the identity theft.

The investigation is now expanding to identify and prosecute any officials involved in the alleged fraudulent scheme. Legal counsel is being sought to determine the impact of these findings on Adetshina’s citizenship status.

Home Affairs has pledged to pursue criminal charges against all implicated parties upon completion of the investigation.

Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber, has emphasized the urgent need for digital modernization within the department to prevent similar fraudulent activities. He also highlighted the risks associated with court-ordered unblocking of duplicate IDs.

The department has assured the public of its commitment to upholding the rule of law while respecting the rights of all parties involved.
