Deadly Blast Rocks Mogadishu Beach

Nairobi, Kenya – A powerful explosion ripped through a crowded beach in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, on Friday evening, resulting in multiple casualties. Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire confirmed the attack on his social media account, expressing condolences to the victims’ families.

Graphic videos circulating online showed the aftermath of the blast, with bodies strewn across the beach as terrified civilians fled for safety. Somali National Television reported that security forces had neutralized the attackers and that medical teams were on the scene tending to the wounded.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, suspicion is falling on the Al-Shabaab militant group, which has carried out numerous similar assaults in the past. Despite being pushed back from large swathes of territory in recent years, the Islamist insurgency remains a potent threat to Somalia’s stability.

The targeting of a public beach, a popular gathering place for residents, underscores the group’s brutality and its determination to inflict maximum casualties on the civilian population.

The full extent of the casualties remains unclear at this time.
