Turf Moor, England – Mohamed Salah’s stoppage-time penalty secured a 1-0 win for Liverpool against 10-man Burnley on Sunday, keeping the Premier League champions on a perfect start to the season.

The match looked set to end in a draw after Burnley defender Lesley Ugochukwu was sent off in the 85th minute for a second yellow card. Liverpool, missing record signing Alexander Isak from the squad, struggled to break down the promoted side’s disciplined defence.

The breakthrough came in the fifth minute of added time when Jeremie Frimpong’s cross struck Hannibal Mejbri’s outstretched arm, prompting referee Michael Oliver to award a penalty. Salah stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to give Liverpool maximum points and temporarily move above Arsenal at the top of the table.

Burnley remain 17th, while Liverpool continue their flawless start with four wins from four matches. Alexis Mac Allister had earlier left the field at halftime through injury, making Liverpool’s late victory even more hard-fought.
