Dar es salaam – The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has held a series of closed-door meetings with security partners in Africa and Europe, aimed at strengthening joint efforts in tackling drug trafficking, terrorism financing, and maritime crime.
AFRICOM’s Counter-Narcotics and Transnational Threats Program, known as J59, recently met with officials from INTERPOL in France and took part in a multinational security roundtable in Tanzania. The sessions focused on improving operational coordination, intelligence sharing, and building long-term infrastructure that supports security operations across borders.
The engagements were part of a wider push to support African nations in leading their own regional responses to growing transnational threats, while aligning with U.S. security goals.
The talks also covered support for regional military exercises and ways to combat illicit smuggling routes that often pass through vulnerable coastal nations, including those in Southern Africa.
