Taiwan project drives seed security in Eswatini

Efforts to strengthen Eswatini’s food systems have received a boost through the Taiwan Africa Vegetable Initiative, a project run by the World Vegetable Center. The program is working to establish a sustainable and organized seed system across the country.

Project representatives recently joined agricultural experts from across Africa in a series of discussions aimed at building more resilient agrifood systems. Key actions identified during the sessions include promoting climate-smart seeds, creating community seed banks for biodiversity preservation, and encouraging the use of indigenous seeds.

The Eswatini project is already putting these strategies into practice, ensuring that local farmers have access to better seeds suited for changing environmental conditions. Officials behind the initiative believe that “everything good starts from seed,” and without it, food production cannot be secured.
