Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe – Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General from across the Southern African Development Community met in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on 5 June 2026, calling for stronger regional cooperation and the signing, ratification, accession to and implementation of SADC legal instruments.
The Meeting of the SADC Committee of Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General brought together ministers, attorneys general and senior government officials from all 15 SADC member states, including Eswatini, to review progress on key legal and institutional matters and provide strategic direction on enhancing legal cooperation in support of SADC’s broader objectives.
Among the key figures at the meeting were South Africa’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, who also chairs the committee, Zimbabwe’s Attorney General Virginia Mabiza, and SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi, all of whom called for the full implementation of SADC legal instruments to strengthen judicial systems and deepen regional integration across the bloc.
The meeting considered several significant agenda items, including the recommendation of judges for appointment to the SADC Administrative Tribunal, proposed amendments to the SADC Treaty, proposals for the establishment of the SADC Pharmaceuticals Pooled Procurement Services, a draft agreement establishing the SADC Tourism UNIVISA, and proposed amendments to the SADC Protocol on Legal Affairs.
