NEW YORK: Eswatini’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Pholile Shakantu, has held talks with American Jewish Committee (AJC) Chief Executive Officer Congressman Ted Deutch and AJC President Robert Lapin, as the Kingdom explores opportunities to deepen engagement with the global Jewish community.

The discussions took place through the AJC’s Edward and Sandra Meyer Office of the CEO and focused on areas of mutual interest, continued dialogue and potential avenues for practical cooperation.

Deutch, a former United States congressman, has served as AJC chief executive officer since October 2022. Lapin was named AJC president in 2025, succeeding Michael Tichnor.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Shakantu and the AJC leadership to discuss strengthening connections between Eswatini and the organisation, including possible areas of economic cooperation.

Shakantu said Eswatini values partnerships that create stronger connections and practical opportunities for collaboration.

Agriculture, technology, health and commerce were identified as potential areas for cooperation, alongside the importance of maintaining regular dialogue between Eswatini and the AJC.

Eswatini established diplomatic relations with Israel in 1968.
