Orem, Utah – Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old resident of Utah, has been arrested for the fatal shooting of 31-year-old conservative commentator Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA rally at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10.
Police say Robinson fired from the roof of a building roughly 200 yards from the event before fleeing the scene. The FBI later recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle believed to have been used in the attack.
Authorities confirmed that Robinson was turned in after his father contacted law enforcement following the release of two surveillance images showing a white man in sunglasses, a baseball cap, and a black sweatshirt decorated with an American flag and an eagle.
President Donald Trump told Fox & Friends on Friday, September 12, that Robinson had been taken into custody, noting that someone “very close” to the suspect had assisted in his arrest. Trump also confirmed he plans to attend Kirk’s funeral.
Footage released by law enforcement and FBI Director Kash Patel shows the suspect sprinting across the rooftop before descending and fleeing toward nearby woods. The arrest concludes a two-day manhunt for the alleged gunman.
