Tech billionaire Elon Musk has publicly expressed regret over a series of social media posts targeting former U.S. President Donald Trump, signalling a shift in tone after days of tension between the two.
Writing on his platform X during the early hours of Wednesday, Musk posted: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
The fallout comes after Musk, who was once considered an ally to Trump and reportedly spent vast sums supporting his election efforts, launched into a public spat with the former president. The clash appeared to damage Musk’s standing in Republican circles and raised fears of political retribution, particularly as several of his companies rely heavily on U.S. government contracts.

One deleted post had alleged, without evidence, that the government was hiding information about Trump’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Other controversial posts remain online, including one where Musk criticised a recent government spending bill and appeared to take credit for Trump’s 2016 election win.
Trump, speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, dismissed the idea of mending fences and issued a veiled warning. He said Musk could face “serious consequences” if he chose to support Democrats in future elections.
Musk’s businesses include SpaceX and Tesla, which are closely linked to U.S. government projects and subsidies.
