Eswatini is making strides in transforming its agricultural sector through the launch of the Innovative Climate-Smart Youth Tunnel Program. With agriculture contributing 8% to the nation’s GDP and providing jobs for 70% of the workforce, the sector remains a vital part of the country’s economy and its efforts to tackle poverty.
The new program aims to equip 160 young people with the tools and knowledge to innovate within the farming industry. As agriculture supports 80% of Eswatini’s population, the initiative is seen as a pivotal opportunity to create sustainable jobs and drive economic diversification.
During the launch, the Minister of Agriculture’s remarks were delivered by the Principal Secretary. The Minister emphasized that agriculture is more than just a sector; it’s integral to Eswatini’s culture and heritage. The sector has the potential to uplift millions and transform the country’s economic landscape.
The program was made possible through the support of the Government of Taiwan, which has partnered with Eswatini to provide training and resources that will help young farmers adopt climate-smart techniques to enhance food security and resilience against climate change.
