Nduma – European Union Ambassador to Eswatini Karsten Mecklenburg planted indigenous trees at Motshane constituency on 12 December 2025 during an environmental event organised by the Eswatini Environment Authority.
The tree planting formed part of activities under the EU Green Diplomacy Weeks and followed an awards ceremony for the Re Think Waste Youth Challenge competition, an initiative run by the European Union in Eswatini together with the EU Eswatini Youth Advisory Board.
The programme brought together officials from the Environment Authority, young people and community members to advance environmental protection and responsible waste management in the country. It sought to support the green agenda and promote circular economy practices aimed at building a climate smart Eswatini.
During the same event, several young individuals and youth clubs received prizes and certificates for their efforts in promoting responsible waste consumption and circular living. The award recipients committed to acting as eco educators within families, schools and communities by influencing attitudes and practices around waste.
The activities at Motshane were held to encourage youth participation in environmental action and to strengthen cooperation between the European Union and local institutions in addressing climate and environmental challenges facing the country.
