Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu will make his first official visit to China in early September, aiming to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties with the Asian giant.

During the visit, President Tinubu will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to sign several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focusing on sectors such as the green economy, agriculture, satellite technology, media enterprise development, and national planning.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, announced the visit during a press briefing at the State House in Abuja. He stated that the trip aims to boost economic collaboration and attract investments to Nigeria.

Tinubu is also scheduled to visit major Chinese companies, including Huawei and the China Railway and Construction Corporation, to push for the completion of the Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano rail project. He will meet with CEOs of 10 leading Chinese corporations managing over $3 trillion in assets across various sectors like ICT, oil and gas, seaport development, and finance.

Beyond the economic agenda, Tinubu and Xi are expected to discuss broader issues, including security at national and regional levels.

As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will also join other African leaders at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, where he will deliver remarks on behalf of the region.
