On Sunday evening, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held a meeting with Rivers State stakeholders in Abuja, in preparation for the upcoming highly competitive election on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by several prominent party members in the state, including Prince Uche Secondus, a former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ben Bruce, and a former governor of Rivers state, Celestine Omehia.
According to Atiku’s campaign Director of Public Communications, Senator Dino Melaye, the meeting was a compensation for the Rivers State rally, which was cancelled due to an impasse with Governor Nyesom Wike.
At the meeting, Senator Lee Maeba, the co-convener, assured the PDP of victory in Rivers State, and suggested that Atiku should prioritize the completion of the East-West Road and revamp the Federal Government amnesty programme upon assuming office.
Atiku promised to fully complete the East-West Road and improve the amnesty programme upon being elected.
Later, Atiku met with PDP National Assembly candidates, where Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, his running mate, addressed the candidates. Okowa urged the candidates to continue campaigning in their respective constituencies and senatorial districts and to win their elections.
Atiku also spoke to the candidates and emphasized that Nigeria is facing one of the most challenging times in its history. He stressed the need for everyone to work together after the elections to redirect the country, as it is currently more divided and struggling with security and economic issues.
