MBABANE – Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has introduced the HiAce PWD, a specially adapted people-mover designed to enhance mobility for persons with disabilities. Named the Ses’fikile model, it comes equipped with an automated rear ramp that allows wheelchair users to board and disembark with ease.
Built on the 16-seater Toyota HiAce, the PWD model accommodates nine seated passengers across three rows while positioning the wheelchair at the rear as though it were a fourth row. The wheelchair bay is fitted with front and rear restraints to ensure safety, and the sturdy ramp folds away neatly when not in use, preserving interior space.
The HiAce PWD combines practicality with reliability, powered by the proven 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The vehicle is available exclusively in Ivory White with a dark grey interior, offering a clean and functional design tailored for accessibility.
TSAM general manager of marketing communications Tasneem Lorgat said the model reflects Toyota’s commitment to creating a more inclusive transport landscape. She described the HiAce PWD as a vehicle that removes barriers, allowing all passengers to travel with dignity and comfort.
The HiAce PWD is available on a customer order basis at E761 713, with each unit coming standard with a 90 000km service plan covering nine services and a three-year/100 000km warranty. The model targets families, schools, and transport operators looking to provide inclusive and comfortable travel experiences.
