New York, 23 September 2025 – His Royal Highness Prince Lonkhokhela, Minister for Natural Resources and Energy, addressed delegates at the 2nd Africa Mineral Strategy Group (AMSG) Roundtable yesterday, outlining key steps to unlock the potential of Africa’s mineral resources.
Prince Lonkhokhela called for increased exploration activities to identify high-value minerals and stressed the importance of ratifying and adopting AMREC and PARC standards for transparent and comparable mineral resource reporting, which he said would enhance investor confidence.
The roundtable, held as a side meeting at the UN General Assembly, brought together African ministers and key stakeholders. The Vice President of Nigeria, representing the Nigerian President, officiated the historic event, which focused on developing a strategic approach to harness Africa’s mineral wealth for sustainable development.
Speaking on the theme “Forging a Common African Voice, Advancing Global Partnerships,” Prince Lonkhokhela said the continent must work collaboratively to ensure that mineral resources benefit African nations and their people.
He noted that benefits from the mining industry would remain a distant dream unless exploration activities were increased. The Government of Eswatini has already launched a multi-disciplinary geoscience mapping project to identify potential mineral targets, with follow-up programs being prioritised for implementation.
Prince Lonkhokhela called for alignment and collaboration among African nations to fully realise the continent’s mineral potential and create opportunities for long-term economic growth.
