MBABANE – The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has received a major boost in its vocational training efforts following a donation of trade testing equipment by the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The equipment, handed over to the Directorate of Industrial and Vocational Training (DIVT), will be used at VOCTIM and ECOT colleges to facilitate trade testing and support national skills development initiatives.
During the handover ceremony, Labour and Social Security Minister Phila Buthelezi said the donation will strengthen the country’s technical and vocational training sector. He proposed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education and Training to allow easier access to trade testing at local colleges.
The equipment is part of a broader initiative to develop national qualifications and apprenticeship guides in areas such as mechanical fitting, instrumentation, and solar PV installation.
Through the support of the project, trade tests have already been conducted for 229 candidates.
Minister Buthelezi also announced that phase two of the project has been approved and is set for rollout.
