MBABANE – Eswatini Railways CEO Nixon Dlamini has been elected President of the Southern African Railways Association (SARA), following board elections held on Thursday at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Dlamini, who has been serving as SARA’s Deputy President for the past two years, takes over from outgoing president and PRASA Group CEO, Hisham Emeran. The appointment comes with a two-year term and places Eswatini at the helm of the regional railway body.
He will be deputised by Botswana Railways Acting GM Chelesile Malele, who was represented at the board meeting by Mr Amon Sefawe.
Dlamini has led Eswatini Railways as CEO since February 2020 and previously served the parastatal as a civil engineer between 1997 and 2001 before venturing into the private sector. His return to ESR marked a period of strategic development for the company, positioning Eswatini as an increasingly important player in the region’s rail logistics.
The Southern African Railways Association comprises state-owned rail operators across the SADC region and works to harmonise rail operations, improve cross-border rail efficiency and promote regional integration through rail connectivity.
