CAIRO – Dr. Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), securing a second four-year term after a vote at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday.
With no challengers by the nomination deadline in November 2024, the 63-year-old South African businessman and football administrator will continue leading the organization until 2029. His first term received widespread praise for strengthening CAF’s financial position and increasing its global visibility.
During his tenure, CAF recorded unprecedented success at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, attracting 1.4 billion viewers worldwide. Prize money for major competitions, including the CAF Champions League and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, also saw significant increases, alongside greater financial backing for Member Associations.
Motsepe’s decision to seek re-election was influenced by appeals from Member Association Presidents and key football stakeholders. Speaking after his confirmation, he reiterated CAF’s commitment to making African football globally competitive, ensuring financial stability, and investing in infrastructure.
