NEW YORK – Eswatini’s Deputy Prime Minister, Thulisile Dladla, has told global leaders at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) conference that the country is making strides in advancing gender equality.
Speaking at the UN headquarters in New York, Dladla outlined Eswatini’s progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. She pointed to a growing number of women in leadership roles, legislative reforms improving access to justice, and policies aimed at economic empowerment.
Dladla also announced that Eswatini will now observe Lutsango Day, a newly declared public holiday celebrating women, set to be held annually in March. The initiative, she said, was introduced by King Mswati III to recognize and honor women’s contributions.
The CSW conference opened with remarks from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other officials, who acknowledged global progress in gender equality while calling for stronger partnerships to uphold commitments. Delegates later adopted a Political Declaration reaffirming the Beijing Platform for Action’s objectives of protecting and promoting the rights and empowerment of women and girls.
