20-year-old arrested for alleged rape in Lulakeni

HLUTHI – Police have arrested and charged a 20-year-old man from Sigwe for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl from Lulakeni, in contravention of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of 2018.

The incident reportedly occurred on January 14, 2026, at around 2200 hours in an open field at Lulakeni. The victim’s mother discovered her missing from home in the middle of the night and began searching the compound. The girl emerged after hearing her name being called and disclosed details of the assault to her mother.

Following the report, police opened a Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence case. On January 18, 2026, at about 1800 hours, the suspect was arrested after a thorough investigation. He appeared before Nhlangano Magistrates Court on January 19, 2026, and was remanded in custody until January 28, 2026.
