Mbabane, Eswatini – Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen visited the Mbabane Government Hospital on Wednesday to tour the newly renovated Referral and Emergency wing.
The hospital is one of many projects supported by Taiwan in the Kingdom of Eswatini, and the renovation was funded by a $10 million grant from the Taiwan government.
President Tsai said she was impressed by the new facilities, which include a 20-bed intensive care unit, a new operating theater, and a diagnostic imaging center.
“This is a testament to the close friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini,” she said. “We are committed to working together to improve the health and well-being of the people of Eswatini.”
Health Minister Lizzie Nkosi thanked Taiwan for its assistance, saying that the renovation had “played a massive role in changing the face of the city of Mbabane.”
“The new facilities will allow us to provide better care to our patients,” she said. “We are grateful for the support of the Taiwan government.”
The Mbabane Government Hospital is the main referral hospital for Eswatini, and it serves a population of over 1 million people. The renovation of the hospital is a major boost for the country’s health care system.
In addition to the renovation of the Mbabane Government Hospital, Taiwan has also provided Eswatini with assistance in other areas, such as education, agriculture, and trade. The two countries have enjoyed diplomatic relations for over 55 years.
