Lobamba – The Acting Minister of Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT), S’khumbuzo Dlamini, tabled the Critical Infrastructure Protection Bill, 2025, in the House of Assembly yesterday. The bill aims to strengthen the protection of essential national infrastructure, including telecom towers, fibre networks, and other key ICT systems.
This move comes in response to growing concerns over vandalism and fibre cuts that have disrupted government e-services, hindered business operations, and disconnected citizens from vital communication platforms. The new legislation proposes harsher penalties, clearer security responsibilities, and more efficient response measures to safeguard the nation’s digital backbone.
The Ministry of ICT stressed that protecting critical infrastructure is vital to maintaining the country’s economic stability and ensuring uninterrupted services that are essential for national development and digital transformation.
