JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, September 23, 2026 — German and South African businesses, development partners and financial institutions met in Johannesburg on September 16 for discussions aimed at expanding economic cooperation and identifying new investment opportunities between the two countries.
The business gathering brought together representatives from the German and South African business communities for a day of networking, exchange and discussions on areas where companies and development institutions can work together.
Participants included companies, development cooperation partners and development finance institutions from both countries, including the German development agency GIZ and the German state owned development bank KfW.
Discussions focused on concrete investment and project opportunities, closer cooperation between development partners and the private sector, sustainable economic activity and job creation.
The event was initiated and led by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), working together with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
It was organised by the Southern African German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, known as AHK Südliches Afrika, and the Afrika Verein der Deutschen Wirtschaft, a German business association focused on economic relations with African countries.
The meeting comes as Germany and South Africa continue to maintain extensive economic links, with business and development cooperation forming an important part of relations between the two countries.
The German Embassy in Pretoria said the gathering provided an opportunity for participants to explore practical areas of cooperation and develop connections between the private sector and development partners.
The embassy said the discussions were centred on creating opportunities that can support investment, sustainable economic development and employment.
The organisers thanked participating companies, partners and other attendees for what they described as an open and constructive exchange, while expressing an intention to continue building stronger links between the German and South African economies.
