Pretoria, South Africa – Despite a recent resurgence of mpox cases in South Africa, organizers of the highly anticipated Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) Expo and Air Show have assured attendees that the event will proceed as planned.
The Department of Health has confirmed that the outbreak is under control, with only two active cases currently being monitored. The low number of cases and high recovery rate indicate that the situation is not a significant threat to the expo.
AAD Exhibition Director, Nakedi Phasha, emphasized that the organizers are closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of participants. “There is no need to panic,” she said. “South African health authorities have a proven track record of effectively managing such outbreaks.”
The Department of Health has also issued guidelines for individuals experiencing symptoms of mpox. Anyone exhibiting fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, or a characteristic rash should isolate themselves immediately and seek medical attention.
Meanwhile, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has taken steps to address the outbreak continent-wide, including setting up an incident management unit and securing a supply of vaccines.
The AAD Expo, scheduled to take place from September 18-22, 2024, remains committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
