The Israeli Transport Minister has approved an aviation agreement with Nigeria, allowing for non-stop flights between the two countries to begin in April, according to a statement from the ministry.
The deal, which still requires cabinet approval, will allow carriers from both countries to operate flights between Tel Aviv and cities in Nigeria, such as Lagos and Abuja.
The move is expected to simplify Christian pilgrimages to the Holy Land, which currently require a layover in Turkey or Ethiopia.
Air Peace will be the first airline to operate direct flights, with two flights per week starting on April 20. Both countries hope that the deal will strengthen business and cultural ties between them.
