Farmers and residents of Mlindazwe no longer need to travel to Bhunya for basic farming inputs and household supplies following the opening of the Sinemphumelelo Mlindazwe Warehouse.
The facility, launched under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development’s Microprojects Programme in partnership with Africa Cooperative Action Trust, was officially handed over to the community this week. The project was initiated by the Sambulelo Multipurpose Cooperative, which has 68 members who contributed to bringing the warehouse to life.
Community coordinator Lungile Zwane Mamba from Africa Cooperative Action Trust said the warehouse would strengthen local cooperatives by providing easier access to essential goods. Microprojects officer Phinda Dlamini described the project as a relief for farmers and builders who previously had to spend money on transport to secure materials. He added that fertile land in the area allows year-round farming and the warehouse will help reduce costs while plans for road improvements are also under way.
Indvuna Yenkhundla Mzamo Dlamini thanked the organisations for their support, calling the development a turning point for Mlindazwe. Sambulelo Cooperative chairperson Wilson Mphamandla Zwane said the warehouse was the result of a joint vision by six organisations working together to improve livelihoods.
