MBABANE – The newly launched Nissan Magnite has joined the ranks of the safest vehicles in its class after scoring a five-star overall rating in the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP) crash tests.
Built in India and sold in multiple markets, including Eswatini and South Africa, the compact crossover SUV achieved a perfect five-star rating for adult occupant protection and three stars for child safety. The tests evaluated frontal and side impact protection, as well as electronic stability control performance.
The latest model, introduced locally in October 2024, comes equipped with over 40 standard safety features. These include multiple airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), vehicle dynamic control, reinforced body structure, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, and rear parking sensors.
Nissan South Africa Managing Director Maciej Klenkiewicz said the achievement marks a rapid leap from the Magnite’s previous two-star rating, crediting the engineering team’s commitment to improving safety standards in a short period.
